Overview

Samtengang winter trek or one of the easier low altitude winter treks in Bhutan. It is an excellent trek for the beginners, and can be finished within 3-4 days. We will be passing the several villages, the forest of rhododendron and oak trees, paddy fields, monastery, lake, and many more. This trek also provides the glimpse of Bhutanese culture. If we do this trek, in the month of March, we can see the Rhododendron flowers in full bloom and sometimes the orchids also.

Day 01.Arrival at Paro

 On arrival at Paro Airport, you will be received by our Tour guide and escort to the hotel 

Day 02. Paro sightseeing.

 Morning: Visit the National Museum (Ta-Dzong) - the Watch Tower of Paro Rinpung Dzong which, was converted to the National Museum in 1968. Visit Rinpung Dzong-fortress is located on a hilltop above the Pachu. The Dzong houses the District Administration Office and the District Monk Body. It was built in 1645 AD. Afternoon: visit the Drukgyal Dzong, located 14 km away from the Paro town. Although in ruins, this Dzong is of great historical importance. It was here that the Bhutanese finally defeated the invading Tibetans and drove them back. From here, the peak of Jumolhari ‘Mountain of the Goddess’ can be seen on a clear day. On the way back you visit Kichu Lhakhang. Kichu Lhakhang was built in 659 A.D. by King Songtsen Gampo of Tibet. It is considered one of the holiest places in Bhutan as it marks the advent of Buddhism in the country. 

Day 03. Paro - Thimphu 

Drive to Thimphu and visit Takin mini zoo, to see the Takin, the National animal of Bhutan, Drupthop Lhakhang – the nunnery and Folk Heritage museum. After lunch visit painting school, National Library and weaving center. Evening visit emporium and stroll around the Thimphu town. Over night stay at hotel Thimphu. 

Day 04. Drive Thimphu – Punakha. 

Drive to Punakha over Dochula. Visit 108 Drukwangyel chorten and chhimi lhakhang-the temple of fertility. Lunch at Punakha. After lunch , visit Punakha dzong, the  magnificent one! And the view point of Khamsumyule Namgyel chorten. Over night stay at hotel Punakha. 

Day 05. Punakha – Limbukha (Start of trek) 

We will start our trek from Changokha village-opposite to Punakha Dzong. En route we will pass by villages, paddy fields and the forest of pine and Rhododendron. Over night at camp at Limbukha. Altitude: 2120 m, Distance: 11km, Time: 4-5hours.

 Day 06. Limbukha – Chungsakha 

We will be passing by the rhododendron and oak forest and orchids can be seen also. We will camp in front of Lama Drukpa Kuenley’s Lhakhang in the middle of Chungsakha village. We can see the life of Bhutanese and we can also visit the farmer’s house. Altitude: 1700m, Distance: 14km, Time: 5-6hrs.

 Day 07. Chungsakha – Samtengang 

On today’s trail we can see the paddy fields, Bhutanese people, farmhouses, village of Sha Wangdi, lake and many more. Overnight at camp at Samtengang. Altitude: 1920m, Distance: 9km, Time: 3-4hrs 

Day 08. Samtengang – Tikizampa (Wangdi) 

At Tikizampa, where our trek ends- we will bid goodbye to our cooks, horse men and other trekking staff. Our car with driver will meet again and then we drive to Wangdue. In the late afternoon, we will visit Wangdue Dzong. Over night stay at hotel Wangdue.

 Day 09. Wangdi – Paro

 Drive to Wangdue over dochula pass (3150m). The drive will take about 5hrs. En route stop at Thimphu for lunch and then continue the journey to Paro. Diner and over night stay at hotel, Paro.

 Day 10: 

Hike to Taktshang(Tiger nest monastery)

 Day 11.Departure :

 Morning drive to Paro International airport for your departure.
